Croeso i Flwyddyn 3 a 4 - Welcome to Year 3 and 4


This year we have covered lots of exciting themes. Take a look at what we've been up to.

 

Autumn Term

Travel Agent:

This project has a geography focus and teaches children about tourism and the impact this can have on people and places. At the heart of this project children learn how to write adverts and develop additional skills in the use of persuasive and descriptive language.

In the Innovate Stage children apply their skills and understanding by budgeting and preparing an overseas trip for a family of four.

In this project the children will learn:

To use geographical skills and vocabulary when finding information about destinations;

About the climate, geographical features and location of a number of holiday destinations;

How to use maths skills in other areas of their work;

What life is like for people who live in the destinations studied, and how this might contrast with the experiences of a tourist;

To locate places on maps, atlases and globes with accuracy, and to calculate distances between destinations and their homes;

How to present information visually and in writing using a range of media;

How to plan visits, work out costs and use enterprise skills in a business environment.

Football First

Football First came to our school for a football challenge event. We had to shoot the ball into the goal to see which was the fastest.

Spring Term/Tymor y Gwanwyn 2017

Wild Wood

This project has a forest skills and art focus and teaches the children about woodland areas, animals which live in these habitats and food chains. At the heart of this project the children will write poetry using descriptive language about wildlife and their habitats and develop additional skills in writing explanation and information writing.

In the Innovate Stage children apply their skills and understanding by creating a 3D installation on the theme of ‘Wild Wood’.

In this project the children will learn:

About the habitats and characteristics of the local wildlife, and about the challenges facing them;

How to use a range of sources to obtain information, including fieldwork and ICT;

To use a range of artistic and technological skills and techniques to create a 3D installation on the theme of ‘Wild Wood’;

To take account of the views of others and work collaboratively;

To use visual displays to educate, persuade and inspire others;

To present information verbally and visually;

To use a range of poetry techniques and forms to create poetry.

Summer Term/Tymor Yr Haf 2017

This project has a history focus and teaches children about the Second World War including an understanding of the reasons for war, the impact on the everyday lives of people including children and about significant individuals of the period. Children will also learn about the significance of the Swansea Blitz and the social and human impact of it. At the heart of this project children write narrative stories based on historical facts and develop additional skills in using flashback as a technique for telling stories.

In the Innovate Stage children apply their skills and understanding by planning their own VE street party.

In this project the children will learn:

About the political, social and economic reasons which contributed to WW2;

About the chronology of events between 1939-1945;

About the impact of the war on the everyday lives of ordinary people in Wales;

About the Swansea Blitz of February 1941;

About significant people of the time who played an important role in the Welsh war effort;

About the key aspects of narrative story writing, including flashback;

About how to use a range of sources to find information.
